STRUCTURE
"S P A C E" A world premiere by Motion X dancer, Kelly McGill, features various sized door frames that the dancers will move in between. These structures provide a spectacular visual element that heightens the emotional effect of the work, while offering a metaphor of how we respond to the space around us.
SOUND
Dance is usually presented with music, but what if the music could come from the dancers? In a brand new collaborative duet work, featuring a musical score of tap rhythms and contemporary dance, Stephanie Dorrycott and Ana Tomioshi present "Listen, Clap, Repeat."
LIGHT
"Turning Point," by Stephanie Dorrycott, uses large flashlights to symbolize a variety of choices when making life changing decisions. This work was selected for the 36th Annual Choreographers Showcase at the University of Maryland and will make an encore as part of our Spring | 4 production!
MULTIMEDIA
We are excited to present a sneak peak of our evening length work for next season entitled "The Fate of Choice." The work is a collaboration between Lindsay Benson Garrett and Stephanie Dorrycott, featuring graphic designs that will be more than just scenery behind the dancers. "The Fate of Choice" explores two ideals: free will vs. determinism and concludes its discussion by suggesting that both may exist.
*This is a work in progress.
In addition...
This performance will also include a short structured improvisation piece that is inspired by Merce Cunningham's chance dances. This immersive work will allow the audience the opportunity to select many elements throughout the piece including music, costumes, and what the dance content mood will be. The dancers will not know anything until the day of the show! This is one not to miss and will push the boundary of how structured dance is often presented!
